University of Illinois trustees expected to increase renovation budget
CHICAGO - University of Illinois trustees are expected to agree to a raise for head basketball coach John Groce and to increase the budget for renovations at Champaign's State Farm Center when they meet in Chicago on Thursday.
The State Farm Center's renovation budget would increase by $4.5 million, from $165 million to $169.5 million, if the trustees agree. The extra money would cover the costs of video boards, a new scoreboard, marquee, and other items. Work on the arena is already underway, and is expected to be completed in late 2016.
Groce would see a $100,000 per year increase to his pay, bringing his yearly salary to $1.7 million. His contract would also be extended through 2018-2019.
