Illinois gardeners and livestock owners mutually benefit from manure exchange program
DECATUR - Mutually beneficial relationships have been formed by Illinois gardeners and livestock owners through a free online manure exchange program.
The Illinois Manure Share introduces farmers who have an abundance of livestock manure to those in need of it. The manure is an organic material that allows farmers to fertilize their crops in a more environmental way, and the general population also benefits from the exchange, as less chemicals end up in the water supply.
The program was developed in Chicago, and the Illinois Manure Share website is offered through the University of Illinois Extension.
