Man robbed by police impersonators near Litchfield

LITCHFIELD - According to Illinois State Police, men who impersonated police officers robbed a driver on Interstate 55 near Litchfield.

The man told police that he was pulled over by a sports utility vehicle with a flashing red light on its dashboard around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, and that when he stopped, three men wearing ski masks robbed him of more than $5,000 in cash while they held him at gunpoint.  The man was then tied up with duct tape and left in his car along the highway.

The man also told police that one of the robbers was dressed similarly to a police officer.

Police continue to investigate this incident.  No arrests have been made.
