Coalition wants Illinois to quickly adopt hydraulic fracturing rules
SPRINGFIELD - A coalition of labor and business groups known as "Growing Resources and Opportunity for the Workforce in Illinois" is asking the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to move faster in implementing rules for hydraulic fracturing.
On Thursday, the coalition held a news conference to call on Governor Pat Quinn's administration, saying that Illinois is missing out on economic opportunities and jobs.
The department faces increasing criticism from "fracking" supporters, who had hoped that high-volume gas and oil drilling would start this summer. Also, the department has only hired a fraction of the 53 employees it says it needs.
According to state officials, they're on track to meet their November 15 deadline for implementing rules, and have posted nearly have the jobs that need to be filled.
