MCHENRY - A northern Illinois man has been charged with murder in the slaying of a woman whose skeletal remains were found in his home.
William J. Ross, 62, was initially charged with concealing a homicide after skeletal remains were found in a plastic bag inside a sealed bedroom in his home by a maintenance worker in November. The victim was identified as Jacqueline Schaefer, 49. Ross had previously faced two domestic battery charges involving the woman.
According to the sheriff's office and the Illinois State Police Crime Lab, additional evidence was found and Ross was charged with murder this week.
Ross was taken into custody on Thursday, and is being held on $5 million bond.
