Crime Stoppers seeking suspect in Champaign thefts
CHAMPAIGN - Champaign County Crime Stoppers are seeking assistance from the public in identifying a man who is wanted in connection with two thefts.
University of Illinois police officers were dispatched to the Undergraduate Library at about 12:54 p.m. on May 10 to take theft reports from two victims. Both victims stated that they had been studying but had fallen asleep. When they awoke, the first victim discovered her wallet and laptop were missing, and the second victim discovered her cell phone was missing.
Shortly after reporting the thefts, the second victim discovered her phone had been sold to someone else for $250, which was then recovered by officers. The first victim's wallet was also recovered, but was missing credit cards and identification items. The first victim was also contacted by her financial institution and learned that there were charges made to her account.
