Law expanding Illinois Holocaust commission signed by Quinn

SKOKIE - Legislation that will expand the Illinois Holocaust and Genocide Commission has been signed by Governor Pat Quinn.

Quinn signed the bill at the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center on Sunday.  The new law makes one of the commission members a student, and boosts the number of members from 18 to 22.

The commission was created in 2010, and works to increase public awareness of genocides, such as the Holocaust.  Illinois requires public elementary and high schools to include study of the Holocaust.

The new law takes effect immediately.
