Central Illinois woman dies retrieving cell phone from burning home

BARTONVILLE - Bartonville police say a central Illinois woman is dead after running into her burning home to retrieve her cell phone.

According to police, the home caught fire around 4 a.m. Tuesday.  The woman and her teenage daughter were outside the home, but the woman ran back in to get her phone.

Police Chief Brian Fengel says that officer Salvador Lopez attempted to save the woman, but was overwhelmed by smoke.  Fengel also says that Lopez is recovering at a local hospital.

Johnna Ingersoll, Peoria County Coroner, says that the woman's identity is not yet available.

Authorities are investigating the fire, but say that there doesn't appear to be anything suspicious.
