Southern Illinois county board approves $7 million medical marijuana plan
MARISSA - A proposal for a $7 million medical marijuana cultivation center near the town of Marissa has been approved by the St. Clair County board.
On Monday, the board voted 21-4 in favor of the proposal, which still requires approval by state officials.
According to officials, the center, called Nature's Care, would grow up to 15 strains of marijuana in a greenhouse that will be attached to a 20,000-square-foot building. The marijuana grown there would be sold in dried or edible form.
Another medical marijuana growing center was approved in northwestern Illinois, as Rock Island's governing aldermanic board has approved the sale of 10 acres to be used for cultivation.
