Police investigate early-morning Urbana shooting

URBANA - Urbana police are seeking information on a shooting that occurred during the early-morning hours of Wednesday, July 30.

Urbana police were dispatched to a report of shots fired near the entrance of the Hamilton on the Park apartment complex at around 4:35 a.m. Wednesday.  Upon arriving, officers say they located a woman, struck by gunfire, down on the sidewalk on the north side of 1400 W. Eads, near the entrance of the complex.  The victim is a 22-year old homeless woman, and was transported to Carle Hospital where she is undergoing surgery.  Police say she is in critical condition.

The motive for the shooting is unknown and still under investigation.  Information on the suspect is limited at this point as well, with the suspect only being described at a male in his early 20s.
