Skeletal remains found in Rochester positively identified
ROCHESTER - Illinois State Police Investigators announced Wednesday that female skeletal remains found in a residential area in Rochester have been positively identified.
On July 19, the Rochester Police Department responded to a call of possible human remains at 309 Park Street and immediately requested the assistance of Illinois State Police to investigate the discovery of the human remains and to process the crime scene.
The Sangamon County Coroner conducted an autopsy, and using forensic evidence confirmed that the remains matched the description of a 43-year-old white female from Decatur.
The victim's next of kin have been identified, but law enforcement officials are not releasing the name of the victim at this time, pending the investigation. The manner of death and motive have not been determined, and Illinois State Police Zone 4, the Rochester Police Department, and the Sangamon County Coroner's Office are continuing the investigation.
