Free motorcycle training courses available

SPRINGFIELD -- Free training courses are still available to motorcycle riders across Central Illinois.

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced openings in its free University of Illinois Motorcycle Rider Program, which offers rider education courses at locations across the area.

IDOT says slots of the Basic Riding Course are open at the following locations:
  • Richland Community College, Decatur
  • Illinois EPA Headquarters, Springfield
  • Danville Area Community College, Danville
  • University of Illinois, Champaign
Training courses are for any Illinois resident 16 years or older, who has a valid driver's license or permit. The course includes 20 hours of instruction, plus 13 hours of "hands-on" cycle instruction.
