"American Idol" open auditions at Illinois State Fair

SPRINGFIELD - This year the Illinois State Fair will offer fairgoers food, music, rides, and the chance to win a record contract.

On August 8 and 9, "American Idol" will hold open auditions near the entrance to the carnival midway from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Fair manager Amy Bliefnick says the auditions are one reason why she hopes the fair will attract more people.

However, livestock remains the fair's cornerstone, and Larry Moffet's family cattle-breeding operation is being singled out this year after 60 consecutive years of showing cattle at the fair.

Grandstand acts for this year's fair include Jake Owen, Pitbull, Steely Dan, and Robin Thicke.
