Decatur – Governor Quinn says the state will invest $2.1 million in the Decatur Civic Center through the states Illinois Jobs Now program.
The money is part of an overall $3.2 million facelift at the Civic Center.The facility initially opened its doors 34 years ago.
“Clearly a convention center is part of the mission of economic growth and jobs,” Quinn told WAND’s state capitol reporter Doug Wolfe.“It lays the foundation for economic improvement all through this decade.”
“Funding for this civic center upgrade will help the civic center retain the extreme importance it plays in Decatur for many years to come,” said Capital Development Board Executive Director Jim Underwood.
The money will be used to upgrade mechanical systems, a theater and the arena.The Decatur Civic Center also houses city offices.
