Woman critically injured after being struck by vehicle
DECATUR - A 67-year-old Decatur resident has suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle when she was walking home from the Decatur Celebration.
Decatur Police say that at about 8:57 p.m. on Sunday, officers were dispatched to a traffic crash at the intersection of Wood and Edward. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found that a vehicle had struck and severely injured a pedestrian in the intersection.
According to Decatur Police, an initial investigation found that the woman was walking home from the Decatur Celebration with family members, and was struck by the vehicle while attempting to across Wood Street. The woman suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to Decatur Memorial Hospital before being transferred to Carle Hospital in Urbana.
The Decatur Police Department Fatal Accident Investigation Team were called to the scene to investigate. The intersection of Wood and Edward was closed to motorists from 9:00 p.m. until 3:00 a.m. while investigators were on the scene.
Decatur Police say that driver impairment is not a factor in the incident.
