URBANA - The University of Illinois Police Department is asking the public for assistance in identifying and locating three suspects in a theft of a cell phone at the Illini Union.

Police say that on July 27 at approximately 10:51 p.m., officers responded to the Illini Union for a reported theft.  Upon arriving, officers were told by the victim that she was sitting with a friend in the Courtyard Cafe with her cell phone and wallet on the table.  When the victim briefly left the table, a male subject came up to the table, grabbed her phone and wallet, and ran out of the Courtyard Cafe's east doors.

Police also say that as the victim was filing the report with officers, a witness told them that he observed that male subject and two females enter the building and sit at a booth at the west end.  The witness then said that the three sat at the table for 15 minutes, then one of the females moved towards the east doors of the building.  The male then moved to a table near the victim while the two females appeared to be mouthing words back and forth and communicating with their hands.  Both females then exited, and the male took the wallet and phone and ran out of the same exit.

The male suspect is described as about 6 feet tall with a skinny build, and in his 20s.  He was wearing a black hooded shirt with the hood up, blue pants, and was carrying a backpack.  In the surveillance video, he is shown entering the Illini Union with no shirt, and later removed the shirt from the backpack and put it on before entering the Courtyard Cafe.

The first female suspect is approximately 20 years old, with a medium build and long reddish-brown hair pulled back into a ponytail.  She was wearing a white short-sleeved v-neck T-shirt and dark colored sweat pants that appear to have a yellow "Batman" logo on the left front leg.

The second female suspect is approximately 20 years old, with a heavier build and black hair in a large bun or ball on her head.  She was also wearing a white short-sleeved v-neck t-shirt and dark colored sweat pants with the word "Hollister" in white lettering on the left front leg.

If you have any information on this crime, you are urged to contact Champaign County Crime Stoppers or the University of Illinois Police Department at (217) 333-1216.
