Springfield man receives 20-year sentence for burglary

SPRINGFIELD - A central Illinois man has received a 20-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to a 2013 burglary of a garage.

Walter Cunningham, 31, received his sentence on Tuesday  The sentence was recommended by the assistant state's attorney because Cunningham has been in prison three times for burglaries in 2003, 2005, and 2008.

According to police, in May 2013 officers found Cunningham and Michael Brown, 30, inside a garage.  Authorities say it's unclear if either man took anything.

In May, Cunningham pleaded guilty to burglary without making a plea deal.  Brown pleaded guilty as well, and was sentenced to seven years behind bars.
