Richland Community College receives "Ready to Respond Campus" designation

DECATUR - Illinois officials say Richland Community College has received a "Ready to Respond Campus" designation, the first such institution in the state to do so.

The Illinois Emergency Management Agency says the Decatur campus was awarded the designation on Wednesday.  The agency also says that among all colleges to be designated as ready to respond to emergencies, Richland Community College is second only to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Richland was among nine campuses that took part in a 2013 pilot of the Ready to Respond Campus program, an initiative designed to enhance emergency preparedness, campus safety, and response efforts.  All universities and colleges may now participate in the voluntary program.

According to Richland President Gayle Saunders, it's important to be prepared to get through an emergency as safely as possible.
