Illinois State Fair kicks off with its annual Twilight Parade

SPRINGFIELD - The Illinois State Fair will continue its tradition of kicking off the year's festivities with its annual Twilight Parade on Thursday.

Floats and high school marching bands are set to compete during the parade, which kicks off at 6 p.m. at Ninth Street and North Grand Avenue in Springfield.  The theme for this year is "Making Memories at the Illinois State Fair."

Kevin McKee, a member of the U.S.'s gold medal-winning Paralympic sled hockey team, will be the grand marshal of this year's parade.

Carnival rides will also be open on Thursday evening, and will have discounted ticket prices during the fair's Preview Night.

The Illinois State Fair runs through August 17.
