Harrisburg mayor passes away after year-long bout with cancer

HARRISBURG - The mayor of the southern Illinois city of Harrisburg has died of brain cancer.

According to Reed Funeral Chapel, Ron Crank, 65, died at his home on Thursday after a year-long bout with brain cancer.  

Crank was a Harrisburg police officer and Saline County sheriff's deputy, and served on Harrisburg's city council for three years prior to being named mayor last year.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday.  Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Harrisburg.
