Dump Standing Water - West Nile Virus

Decatur – The Macon Mosquito Abatement District has discovered the West Nile virus in two batches of mosquitos captured in 19 traps.

Although most people will not get seriously ill from West Nile it can be a problem for some.  Especially those in poor health.

“It can be very dangerous to certain people,” said Jackie Evans-Moser of the Macon Mosquito Abatement District.  “The younger children and then older adults.  So people with compromised systems.  Most people will feel flu like symptoms.  But it can cause coma and death.”

Evans-Moser is urging people to remove pools of standing water from their property by dumping water out of flower pots, gutters and kids wading pools.

West Nile cases are coming later this year.  Likely because of the cooler summer weather.

Standing water can be reported on the districts new website: maconmosquito.com
