CHAMPAIGN-- Illinois just got a little thinner at the linebacker position. Mike Svetina will miss 8-10 weeks with a broken foot, Head Coach Tim Beckman announced today after practice.
"It was a clear cut fracture," said Beckman. "You're talking 8-10 weeks that he's going to be out."
The injury happened on Tuesday. Svetina had surgery last night. Beckman hopes to get him back for the start of Big Ten play.
"Saw him this morning," said Beckman. "He was in great spirits...it was a successful operation."
Since coming to Illinois, Svetina hasn't missed a single game. He started 11 games last year at STAR, and was fifth on the team in tackles with 57.
