SPRINGFIELD - The annual celebration of agriculture known as the Illinois State Fair is now officially open to the public.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony that signals the opening of the fair was held at the state fairgrounds in Springfield on Friday. In attendance were Illinois Department of Agriculture officials, the Illinois County Fair Queen, and Governor Pat Quinn.
The state fair runs through August 17, and will feature harness racing, livestock competitions, concerts, and carnival rides.
