Illinois' concealed carry application process getting easier

CARBONDALE - Illinois officials say that the initial rush of concealed carry permit applications is slowing down, and the process of obtaining a permit is becoming easier to navigate.

Officials also say the technology issues and other problems experienced by concealed carry applicants at the program's launch in January have mostly been resolved.

According to Illinois State Rifle Association spokesman Richard Pearson, some people are receiving their permits within 35 days of submitting their application.

State Representative Brandon Phelps says the number of permits issued in Illinois between February and July is nearing 69,000.
