Papers of Abraham Lincoln project adds 2 new documents

SPRINGFIELD - A project dedicated to identifying and publishing documents written by or to Abraham Lincoln has added two previously unknown papers to its collection.

The Papers of Abraham Lincoln project, administered through the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum and co-sponsored by the Center for State Policy and Leadership at UIS and the Abraham Lincoln Association, recently scanned the two documents.

The first document is a letter Lincoln wrote to Simon Cameron, his former secretary of war, in 1863.  The second document is an endorsement that Lincoln penned on an 1862 letter from a New York firearms dealer who was trying to locate rifles for soldiers in Illinois.

Both documents come from the A.S. Williams III Americana Collection at the University of Alabama Libraries.
