Mattoon police arrest 2 men for armed robbery

MATTOON - Two central Illinois men have been arrested by Mattoon police for allegedly robbing a Casey's General Store.

According to Mattoon police, Zachary Sapp, 21, and Nicholas Jackson, 24, were arrested on August 12 at 5:04 p.m.  Both Sapp and Jackson face preliminary charges of armed robbery.

The charges allege that Sapp and Jackson participated in the August 10 armed robbery that occurred at Casey's General Store, located at 800 Charleston Avenue in Mattoon.

Information regarding the armed robbery that occurred at an Effingham Econo Lodge Motel during the early morning hours of August 12 has been forwarded to the Effingham Police Department.

Both Sapp and Jackson are being held at the Coles County jail, pending the filing of formal charges by the Coles County State's Attorney's Office.
