Millikin Picked 7th in CCIW Preseason Poll

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- North Central was predicted to win the 2014 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) football title according to the conference's preseason coaches' poll released Wednesday.

The Cardinals (13-1, 7-0 in 2013) won the poll with 49 points and seven first place votes after capturing their eighth-straight CCIW title in 2013, which tied a conference record set by Augustana from 1981-1988. North Central advanced to the NCAA Division III Football Championship's semifinal round last season.

Wheaton (8-2, 5-2) was second with 43 points and one first place vote, while Illinois Wesleyan (9-2, 6-1) placed third with 36 points after the Titans earned an at-large berth in the NCAA postseason last year. It was Illinois Wesleyan's third postseason appearance in the last five seasons.

Augustana (5-5, 3-4) placed fourth with 27 points, while North Park (3-7, 3-4) was fifth with 26 points. Elmhurst (4-6, 3-4) was sixth with 21 points, while Millikin (2-8, 1-6) and Carthage (1-9, 0-7) rounded out the poll with 12 and 10 points respectively.

Voting is done by the CCIW's head football coaches. Each coach votes for the seven other schools in the conference in order of predicted finish. Points are assigned in reverse order of voting (seven points for first, six for second, etc.). Coaches do not vote for their own teams.
