Mattoon police say more charges likely for 2 men arrested for alleged armed robbery
MATTOON - In an update to a story WAND brought you yesterday, Mattoon police are requesting that formal charges of home invasion be filed against two men who were arrested on Tuesday for alleged armed robbery.
Mattoon police say they are requesting charges be filed against Nicholas Jackson, 24, and Zachary Sapp, 21, for a home invasion that occurred in the 200 block of S. 30th Street in Mattoon on March 15, 2014 at about 6:00 a.m.
The charges allege that Sapp and Jackson were the two masked men that broke into an occupied residence, brandishing a firearm. The suspects in this crime tied up the residents of the home, and proceeded to steal money. The firearm was also discharged during this crime, but no one was injured.
Jackson and Sapp were arrested by Mattoon Police and Cumberland County Sheriff's Deputies on August 12. Mattoon police also say that Jackson and Sapp will likely be charged in Effingham County for the armed robbery of the Econo-Lodge Hotel on August 12. Both men are currently in the Coles County Jail.
