Household toxic waste collection being held this fall by Illinois EPA
SPRINGFIELD - The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency is offering residents the chance to safely dispose of household hazardous waste in six counties this fall.
On Wednesday, the agency announced that residents can bring leftover chemicals and other toxic wastes to sites during one-day events in DuPage, Henry, Logan, Marion, Ogle, and Piatt counties in September and October. Officials say that many people have materials in basements, garages, and sheds that should not be put out for regular trash collection.
Materials accepted for disposal include oil-based paints, pharmaceutical products, antifreeze, chemical cleaners, batteries, weed killers, and mercury-infused products. Fire extinguishers, automobile batteries, explosives, and agricultural and medical waste will not be accepted at the events.
