Former Western Horse Show manager honored by Illinois State Fair

SPRINGFIELD - A trophy in the American Saddlebred Western Pleasure division of the Society Horse Show at the Illinois State Fair has been renamed in honor of a longtime volunteer and former Western Horse Show manager.

On Thursday, fair officials announced the trophy would be renamed after Arenzville, Illinois native Wilbur "Webb" Parlier.  Parlier had competed in rodeos for a decade, winning numerous national and international Appaloosa horse titles along the way.  He was nationally known as a horse trainer and show manager.

According to State Fair Manager Amy Bliefnick, Parlier was part of the fair for almost 50 years.  She also says that he "had a heart of gold" and "was a true cowboy."

Parlier died at the age of 76 in May 2014.
