Data breach announced at several Supervalu stores across the country

EDEN PRAIRIE, MINNESOTA - Supervalu, Inc. has announced its has discovered a data breach at several of its grocery stores, as well as some of its liquor shops.

In a statement released on Friday, the company says that a "criminal intrusion" at stores in Illinois, Minnesota, Virginia, Maryland, and Missouri may have resulted in the theft of account numbers, expiration dates, cardholders' names, and other information.  However, Supervalu, Inc. says that it has not determined if any of the data has been stolen or misused, and is announcing the breach out of "an abundance of caution."

According to the release, cards from which data may have been stolen were used between June 22 and July 17 at any of the stores listed here.

Upon learning of the breach, the company took measures to secure its network.  An investigation into the breach is ongoing.
