Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan warning residents of phone scam
CHICAGO - Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is warning state residents to watch out for a new telephone scam, in which callers pose as representatives of technology companies like Microsoft.
According to Madigan, the callers will claim that they have detected malware or a virus on your computer, and then will try to trick you into paying for unneeded software fixes or into providing remote computer access. Madigan says that her office has received several complaints from Illinois residents about this scam.
Madigan also says that residents that receive these kinds of calls should hang up, and that you should never give out your credit card or financial information, or any passwords.
