Central Illinois hospital cancels mission trip to Liberia

PEKIN - A central Illinois hospital's mission trip to Liberia has been canceled due to the deadly outbreak of Ebola in West Africa.

Pekin Hospital officials canceled the trip after deciding it would have put employees at risk, and opted to send gloves, medicines, and medical masks instead.

Doctors at the central Illinois hospital are now planning a mission trip to Guatemala in November.  The $51,000 needed for the trip is largely expected to be raised through fundraisers.

According to the World Health Organization, Ebola has killed 413 people in Liberia.  Over 1,100 people in West Africa have lost their lives to Ebola.
