Quinn signs law requiring IHSA to develop concussion certification program

CHICAGO - A new law requiring high school coaches and athletic directors to take concussion training courses has been signed by Governor Pat Quinn.

The legislation, signed at a school in Chicago, requires the Illinois High School Association to develop an online concussion certification program.

The training will center on the recognition and prevention of concussions, as well as education of the long-term effects of repetitive head trauma.  Student athletes will also receive awareness training.

The new law takes effect immediately.
