Illinois State Police honor 4 women for their help in locating murder victim's body

Posted:
EFFINGHAM - Four women from Salem have been honored by Illinois State Police for their efforts in finding the body of seven-year-old murder victim Willow Long.

Captain Kelly Hodge presented certificates of appreciation to Hattie Williams, Williams' daughter Jamie Thompson, and Thompson's two daughters Frankie Smith and Jonny Smith.

According to Hodge, the four searched for Willow Long on their own after being turned away from the initial search party due to the number of volunteers.  They found Long's body after locating a barely visible object in a nearby pond.  Hodge also says, "Their persistence and decisive actions were crucial to the criminal case and subsequent arrest of the killer."
