Employees at Decatur's Caterpillar facility celebrate milestone

DECATUR - Employees at Caterpillar Inc.'s Decatur facility are celebrating the production of their 75,000th wheel tractor-scraper.

The wheel tractor-scraper is built to move high volumes of material quickly and economically, and is part of one of three product families upon which Caterpillar built its business following World War II.  The success of Caterpillar's products following the war allowed the expansion of its product line, and the investment of money in new manufacturing facilities, leading to the one in Decatur.

Decatur's Wheel Tractor Scraper Product Manager Sankar Kurumbail said, "That 75,000th machine was built with the same goal as the first one: making our Caterpillar customers more successful.”

Caterpillar Mining Products Vice President Tom Bluth congratulated and thanked employees, dealers, suppliers, and customers for their work and support in reaching this milestone.
