Springfield mayor announces municipal buildings to be used as cooling centers

SPRINGFIELD - In response to the heat advisory in effect until Monday evening, Springfield Mayor J. Michael Houston announced that City facilities will be available for use as cooling centers for those who otherwise might not be able to find relief from the heat.

Municipal Center West is open from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on week days, Municipal Center East is open 24 hours a day, and Lincoln Library will be open during its normal hours: Monday through Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

All three facilities are available to individuals that need to get out of the heat when temperatures run dangerously high.
