Apple River Fort State Historic Site holding event focusing on pioneer tools

ELIZABETH - Those who enjoy learning about Illinois history will have a chance to see how early settlers made items such as bullets and tools.

On August 31, the Apple River Fort State Historic Site will host an event that will showcase tools used by northwestern Illinois pioneers in the 1830's.  Games will also be included in the daylong event.

The Illinois Historic Preservation Agency operates the site, which is a reconstruction of the civilian fort built during the "Black Hawk War" in 1832.  The fort served as the venue for a battle between settlers and Sauk and Meskwaki warriors.

The event runs from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
