Chicago man suspected in Galesburg slaying taken into custody
WOODSTOCK - A Chicago man suspected in a west-central Illinois stabbing death earlier this month has been arrested in McHenry County.
On Monday, Christopher Croom, 29, was taken into custody with the help of U.S. Marshals. Croom, a federal parolee, was wanted in the death of a man who was stabbed on August 13 in Galesburg, and died of his injuries four days later.
According to McHenry County Undersheriff Andrew Zinke, when bystanders tried to help the victim, the suspect pulled a gun on them.
Croom is jailed in McHenry County pending extradition, with his bond set at $1 million.
