Student allegedly brings weapon into Springfield high school
SPRINGFIELD - A Springfield high school student has been apprehended after allegedly bringing a weapon into Lanphier High School.
According to a statement from Springfield Public Schools, police officers and Lanphier High School officials received a tip that a student was allegedly in possession of a firearm.
Springfield police say that officers arrested the 16-year-old student. The student was then taken to the Springfield Police Department where he was questioned, and was later taken to the Sangamon County Juvenile Detention Center.
Springfield police also say the student allegedly was carrying the gun in school for projection, and at no time did he display or discharge the weapon.
There will be increased security on site at Lanphier High School tomorrow, and Springfield Public Schools will continue to work with the Springfield Police Department with their investigation.
