Sacred Heart-Griffin debuts helmets designed to alert staff to head injuries
SPRINGFIELD - A Springfield high school football team will be among one of the first in the state to debut new technology designed to alert sideline staff when a player takes a hard hit.
Sacred Heart-Griffin will have their players fitted with the new Riddell InSite Impact Response System, a football helmet-based sensor technology that alerts staff when a player experiences a significant single impact or multiple impacts during a game or practice.
The sensors fit into the liner of the helmet, and uses integrated technology to monitor and alert staff to possible injuries. Alerts are based on four threshold factors, which include player position, player skill (youth, high school, or college football,) single impact, and multiple impacts, which includes sequences of impacts over a rolling seven-day period.
