Springfield officials hold groundbreaking ceremony for independent living project

SPRINGFIELD - A groundbreaking ceremony will be held for the start of construction on an expansion of a senior independent living facility in Springfield.

The president a CEO of Lutheran Senior Services, Rev. John Kotovsky, will be joined by city and state officials at the groundbreaking, scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on August 28 at Concordia Village in Springfield.

The expansion is estimate to cost about $22 million, and will include 67 new independent living apartments, three new patio homes, an indoor swimming pool, medical clinic, two exercise rooms, an art studio, and a game room.

The project will add about a half-dozen permanent jobs to the complex's current workforce.
