Union Iron expands manufacturing operations in Decatur

DECATUR - Governor Pat Quinn announced on Thursday that Union Iron will consolidate and enlarge its Decatur manufacturing operations, creating 25 new full-time jobs in the process.

After evaluating several locations in the U.S. and Canada, Union Iron decided to reinvest in Decatur.  Union Iron's new 135,000-square-foot manufacturing facility will be built at 3550 E. Mound Road.

The expansion was made possible by a state incentive package worth about $1.1 million over 10 years.  The package also includes a $41,000 grant for job training.  The incentives are part of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity's EDGE program, which requires companies to meet agreed-upon targets for job creation or retention and capital investment to receive the money.

Under the agreement, Union Iron will invest a minimum of $10.3 million at its Decatur location over the next 10 years.  The company has also pledged to create 25 full-time jobs within two years, and to retain its existing 115 full-time positions in Decatur.
