University of Illinois smoke-free campus policy extends to football tailgaters

CHAMPAIGN - University of Illinois officials are reminding football fans that tailgaters in Memorial Stadium's parking lots must adhere to the school's new smoke-free campus policy.

Signs have been posted at all entrances to university parking lots and the stadium's parking lot notifying people of the policy.

The university became smoke-free on January 1 following a student referendum.

University of Illinois police will inform smokers of the policy and ask them to put out their cigarettes.  Anyone who refuses could be subject to immediate removal.
