Illinois EPA holding household hazardous waste collection events

ILLINOIS - The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency is holding two collection events that will allow those who have household hazardous waste to dispose of it safely.

The first event will be held at the Landscape Waster Facility in Monticello on September 27 from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.  The second event is scheduled for October 11 from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Logan County Fairgrounds in Lincoln.

The following household items will be accepted free-of-charge at the collections: oil-based paints, paint thinners, spray paints, herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, lawn chemicals, old gasoline, solvents, pool chemicals, cleaning products, drain cleaners, mercury, unwanted medicines and pharmaceuticals, used motor oil, antifreeze, hobby chemicals, fluorescent bulbs and household batteries.

Tires, latex paint, propane tanks, fireworks, fire extinguishers, automotive batteries, potentially infectious medical wastes and sharps as well as commercial, institutional and agricultural wastes will not be accepted at the events.
