Macon County Sheriff's Office warning residents of new phone scam

MACON COUNTY - The Macon County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a new phone scam going around the region.

The sheriff's office says a Macon County resident received one of these calls on September 2.  The call came from a private number, and the caller, speaking in broken English, told the resident that she has won $3.5 million, and in order to claim the money, she needed to send the caller money on a pre-paid card.

The resident refused to give any information to the caller and ended the call.  The caller never indicated they were calling from a specific business or game of chance the resident had entered.

The Macon County Sheriff's Office is advising residents to quickly end any calls of this nature, and to not give out any of your personal information.
