URBANA - A Champaign man who allegedly robbed a motel clerk in July will be heading back in court in October. Ramone D. Roebuck was charged with aggravated robbery. Police say Roebuck went into the Quality Inn on Marketview Drive and demanded money from the clerk.
According to a police report filed in Champaign, the robber held his hand under his sweatshirt and told the clerk he would be shot if the clerk screamed.
The clerk handed over cash and the robber drove away in a silver Jeep. Roebuck was located by a police officer Friday night but denied involvement. The police report said a witness helped identify Roebuck's Jeep; the motel clerk also picked Roebuck out of a photo lineup.
Roebuck could face from six to 30 years in prison if convicted. Prior criminal convictions, which include robbery, theft, burglary, and criminal trespassing, could play a role in sentencing.
