Former U.S. President to speak at Illinois College

JACKSONVILLE - Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter will speak at a central Illinois liberal arts college next month.

Carter, who turns 90 next month, will speak at Illinois College on October 14.  Todd Spann, a spokesman for the college, says details of the visit will be worked out later.

Carter will speak as part of the Phi Alpha lecture series, named for a literary society at the college.  Previous Phi Alpha speakers include journalist Helen Thomas and U.S. Senator Dick Durbin.

Jimmy Carter served as the 39th President of the United States, from 1977 to 1981.
