Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District awarded $15.7 million federal grant

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY - The Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District has been awarded a $15.7 million federal grant for the Champaign-Urbana Multimodal Corridor Enhancement Project.

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin made the announcement on Tuesday, with the funds designed to help revitalize the region's transportation network.

The project will help rehabilitate the busy traffic corridors that connect Urbana and Champaign with the University of Illinois, and will also increase bus service and bike capacity while making sidewalks in the cities' downtown area more pedestrian-friendly.
