Teen faces attempted first-degree murder charges in baby abandonment case

JACKSONVILLE - In an update to a story that WAND brought you last week, a 17-year-old girl who is accused of leaving her newborn baby alive in a trash bin has been charged with attempted first-degree murder by Jacksonville prosecutors.

The teenage girl was arrested for child abandonment last week, five days after the baby was found.  Authorities say that the teen allegedly abandoned the baby less than 12 hours after he was born.

On Monday, prosecutors announced the ten will be tried as a juvenile.  Her name has not been released due to her age.
